I have a Breville 'smart toaster oven' which I've used for 7 years in two different apartments with no problems. jabberwocki. I bought a new toaster 6 weeks ago. Have never had an RCD tripping problem but now when the lever on the toaster is pressed down the main RCD trips. This does not happen every time but sometimes also happens when the toast pops up. I would just normally replace the toaster but the b.....dy thing cost me best part of £90.

15 April 2015 at 1:47PM. If it's tripping at the point the element has heated up, I'd bet the toaster was faulty. If you try a similar appliance (something with a heating element - hair dryer, fan heater) on one of the circuits protected by the same RCD and it trips, I'd be inclined to think the RCD is over sensitive and you'd need a spark.
